ART Colours Vol. 29

At the Park Hotel Tokyo, we welcome our guests with hospitality in the form of “arrangement”, one of Japan’s aesthetic values, expressed through the medium of art. As part of this initiative, we hold series of art exhibition, “ART colours”, representing the four seasons of Japan. On this 29th exhibition, we will be representing summer through a collaboration with creative platform Pocko.

“Summer is always the best of what might be…” Charles Bowden

In this group summer exhibition, creative platform Pocko takes over 3 floors of the Park Hotel in Tokyo, a selection of Japanese and western artist form multi-disciplinary backgrounds, meet and join their effort in a chance encounter where a collaboration can flourish and possibly evolve in the future. Like a chance summer encounter. There is a long tradition in history of artists collaborations, from Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray, Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat to name a few.

Summer is a time of infinite potential; days are longer, the weather is warm and the sea is our favourite destination. Summer is about freedom and youth. No school and no clothes. Adventure, possibilities and exploration. Summer make us want to believe.

These summer art encounters are like chance meetings, devices of change that can be life altering. Random encounters are the spice of life and we hope to provoke unexpected yet intimate vibrations between different bodies of works and the personalities behind them. Waves are oscillations accompanied by a transfer of energy. Waves of creativity from very far shores come together with the aim to fix that chance meeting, a melting point, that rare moment where our energies come together and transfer to make anew.

This summer exhibition includes internationally renowned artists to young creative talents, photographers, painters, illustrators, animators, makers. It is a way to show the potential of the freshly arrived Pocko Japan and how at the core of its philosophy is collaboration, bridging the gap between Europe and Japan in the field of creative dreamers and makers.

“The breaking of a wave cannot explain the whole sea.” Vladimir Nabokov
