Corridor Gallery 34

JAPANESE PAINTER Tsubura Watanabe + Shinichi Saito

Period: May 11 (Sun.) – Jun 26 (Thr.), 2025

Location: Corridor Gallery 34, Park Hotel Tokyo (34F)
Admission: Free

This is the first collaborative exhibition of two painters whose lifework revolves around uniquely Japanese motifs. Tsubura Watanabe continues to depict the Yaoyorozu no Kami—the ancient Japanese belief that deities dwell in all things, from nature to everyday objects. Shinichi Saito portrays the world of Goze—blind female traveling performers who existed in the Tohoku region of Japan until the 1960s, capturing their lives and cultural heritage with deep empathy. Through their distinctive perspectives, the two artists offer a profound exploration of Japanese spirituality, folklore, and forgotten traditions.
