The 38th artist room was created by artist Yume Aoyama. The production is completed on November, 2023.
Room #3419 | Completion Date: 2023.11
Folk toys such as Koi-kin (Kintaro holding a carp) and Kawara-zaru (monkey made of tiles), were created from the Edo period to the Meiji period, where toys were made in various regions using familiar materials such as paper and wood, with the hope that children would grow up well. They are created from the lifestyles of various parts of Japan. They reflect the local legends, beliefs, aesthetic sense, and sense of happiness. In the artist room, I created works based on the motif of “folk toys” that were born from such lifestyles. Using embroidery and paint, I create new stories by depicting toys that are normally displayed on shelves being enchanted and traveling on adventures through Japan’s nature.
