Dance! of Autumn Color

Masuo Ikeda × Chiaki Shuji Art Exhibition

“Dance! of Autumn Color” Masuo Ikeda × Chiaki Shuji Art Exhibition will be held as the 22nd ART colours Exhibition celebrating Japan’s four seasons in art.

This year, it will be 20 years since Masuo Ikeda (1934-1997) passed away. He was active worldwide on account of his many talents. Not only was he an artist, he was the first to receive the Akutagawa Prize as an artist, and was also a film director. He held a private exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and designed the Nagano Olympic monument. Chiaki Shuji (1973-), who won a prize at a competition bearing Ikeda’s name, is a contemporary artist living in Kyoto known for her work combining brilliant colors and fine line drawings.

This exhibition, featuring the work of these two colorists (color artists) that transcend generations, expresses the vibrant autumn colors. At the entrance on the 25th floor, you’ll be greeted with a six-panel folding screen by Masuo Ikeda, and enjoy the contrast with the colorful works of Shuji Chiaki decorating the opposite wall. And at the elevator hall and Gallery Room on the 31st floor, the second exhibition venue, you’ll see Shuji’s dancing watercolors, while in the six windows of the corridor, lithographs with Ikeda’s vivid colorings will be exhibited.

The collaboration between these two artists, which will be exhibited at the atrium style lobby and the winding corridor on 31st floor, will make you feel the splendor of the changing seasons. Please enjoy the beauty of Japan in the sunshine and beneath the moonlight.
