Room #3426 | Completion Date: 2025.03
Upon entering the room, I was immediately struck by the large windows. I envisioned a space where each wall had a window, so I designed the layout with that idea in mind. Windows serve as a bridge between the interior and the outside world, reflecting external landscapes. In that sense, paintings share a similar role by projecting scenes from the outside world.
I wanted to create a room where different landscapes could be enjoyed by placing window frames and paintings on each wall.
In my artwork, I often depict chairs as metaphors for people. By illustrating chairs or everyday objects, I aim to indirectly evoke the presence of their owners. For this room, I painted numerous chairs on the wall opposite the actual window, arranged like a group photo. At night, I hope the reflection of the chairs in the window will create a mysterious and intriguing atmosphere.
Born in 1988 in Nara Prefecture and completed a doctoral program in Japanese painting at the Graduate School of Fine Art, Tokyo University of the Arts.
My artwork focuses on the themes of “metaphor” and “citation.” I depict chairs and interior scenes as metaphors for people. Additionally, I create artworks that reference compositions from existing portraits, deliberately omitting the figures to evoke their presence in the viewer’s imagination. Using a technique where I draw lines with crayons and thickly apply coarse mineral pigments around them, I aim to capture forms reminiscent of the earnest determination of a child-an endeavor that proves quite challenging.
